Saving His Wolf is set in the world of my Shifter Wars series, but it’s a standalone novella. Deep Creek, a park with forests, mountains, and rivers, is the setting for all the books and in Saving His Wolf, I explore the shifter relationships from a different angle.
In Deep Creek, there are many types of shifters. The bears are mostly park rangers, patrolling the forests and trails of the park—keeping humans and other creatures safe. The mountain lion pride lives right outside the forest in the north, near a small town called Henredon, and the wolves live to the west in an area populated with farms. Other shifters, such as hawks, live in the forest.
In Saving His Wolf, Olivia runs from the wolf pack to escape marriage. She’s blind and unable to shift and though she knows the trails well, she didn’t expect a spring snowstorm to get her lost and in peril. Powell, a ranger we’ve seen in the other Shifter Wars books, is on patrol and comes across the willful Olivia. She’s in trouble and he can’t leave her to die.
I’ve enjoyed writing in the world of Deep Creek, imagining the forests and waterfalls and the caves that snake through the mountains. With the bears as park rangers, I got to explore the park in ways I wouldn’t otherwise have been able to.
Even though Powell was a minor character in the first two books, I had readers wanting him to get his HEA and so he was the perfect hero for this novella. Plus, he never had much love for the Green Glen Wolves, so he’s now got to face his personal issues with them. Olivia, though blind and unable to shift, is a strong woman—sometimes too headstrong. She makes some questionable choices, but her motivation is strong and she’s scared of Alfred. These things conflict and she isn’t always right. Powell is patient with her and their teamwork brings some changes to Deep Creek.
Spring in the mountains is one of my favorite times, though I’m not a fan of late spring snowstorms, but they happen! The forest is preparing for new growth, new babies, and the return of the humans to the land. The setting was perfect for Olivia and Powell’s story and I hope you’ll give them a chance and pick up Saving His Wolf to see what happens when shifters of different, warring species find out they are fated to be together.
USA Today bestselling author Kerry Adrienne’s exciting novella in the Shifter Wars series about a woman who is seeking her fate and a man determined to help her discover her true nature.
Olivia, born blind and without the ability to shift, yearns to seek her own fate away from her watchful and devoted wolf pack. Vulnerable and stuck in human form, she’s alone and at risk in the forest’s brutal winter when she’s rescued by a park ranger and taken to his cabin in Deep Creek. By the warmth of a crackling fire, she’s comforted by his presence. But it’s his rugged scent that stirs something in her she’s never felt before.
Bear shifter Powell sensed the instant he held her that Olivia was his mate. He also knew she had the untapped powers to discover her true shifting nature—if only he could convince her to trust in him, and to believe in herself. Now the one thing that stands to threaten their healing mating hunger is Olivia’s distrusting and vigilant pack. A pack prepared to do anything to get her back.
But there is no danger as strong, no desire so liberating as what Powell is bringing out in her—because Olivia can finally see where her destiny lies.
