A Walk in the Painted Desert

**Giveaway Alert!**

Congratulations to “Bn100”, the winner in Maggie’s giveaway. Thank you to all who participated!

Location, location, location. Often the setting in a book has a life of its own: whether it’s the teaming with the bustling streets of Manhattan, a laid back southern California beach town, a small town in Maine with all manner of societal issues that lean toward the dark side, the deck of a brigadier ship sailing the globe, the wilds of Georgia as the back drop to surviving the zombie apocalypse, to an Iron Throne drenched in blood. They all have something in common. These places help shape the contours of a book and are just as much of a character as the rest of the story.

In my latest novel, the Painted Desert serves as the locale. In Remember Me, my hero and heroine are forced to travel in to the harsh starkness of northern Arizona to save five missing boys. They travel the borders of the Painted Desert, a land that transcends the age of man. The mountains appear to have been painted, hence the name, in such a fascinating array of colors. There are different hues of red, gold, purple, and blue that do not seem real to the naked eye. I remember visiting the area with my family while I was in college and falling in love with the vibrant beauty.

Painted Desert

When I had the flash of inspiration for Remember Me, I had this image of my heroine, Madelyn, standing on a mountain ridge looking out over the colored rock formations. I knew it was in a unique setting that I wanted to bring to life and would serve as an additional character in the story. It also gave me a chance to answer the question: what happens when you drop an avowed city girl into the middle of nowhere? Will she survive the onslaught of the desert or perish? Personally me, I’d likely have a hard time surviving, even if I had help in the form of sexy Detective Bronx Daniels to help me.

I’ll be giving away an ebook copy of REMEMBER ME to one lucky person leaving a comment or email entry in answer to the following question.

What’s one place you’ve visited that took your breath away at its beauty?

The Heart Never Forgets…

When world renowned psychic, Madelyn Rose, accepts a missing children’s case on the Navajo Reservation, she believes it is a case she is more than capable of solving. What she never expects is for Detective Bronx Daniels to dredge up images of their shared past life and challenge the foundation of her future. In the wide open spaces of the Arizona desert, Madelyn and Bronx are forced to rely upon each other for survival as they race to save the abducted boys from the will of a madman. But with her life on the line, will Madelyn risk it all for a love that crosses time?

Bestselling Author Maggie Mae Gallagher doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t writing. When she was a kid she acted out her favorite scenes, only better, with her brother and cousin. As a teenager, she wrote reams of poetry, but realized her true love lay with creating characters and stories. A former music and history major, Maggie is a total geek at her core. When she is not writing, she adores attending the latest comic con or spending time with her family. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her two furry felines.
